چکیده

The Hoabinhian has been a major topic in prehistoric research Mainland Southeast Asia for nearly 90 years. However, its variability terms of lithic assemblages is still poorly understood, as limited number sites have analyzed from technological perspective. This to be expected, considering that the covers timespan more than 30,000 years, wide region extending mountainous south-western China insular Indonesia and diversified sub-tropical tropical environments. In this research, we present tools at site Moh Khiew Cave Southern Thailand. Unlike other ‘typical’ discovered region, assemblage (~11,000–9000 BP) dominated by unifacially shaped limaces unifaces, on large/medium thick flakes, thus involves mixed operational sequence (chaîne opératoire) debitage shaping methods. No classic sumatralith were found site, which are usually made river cobbles considered hallmark Hoabinhian. Another exceptional tool type biface, shale slabs or blocks, cutting types include chopper-chopping-tools flake tools, etc. view production methods unifaces limaces, their distinct volumetric structures, co-existence with types; different sites, may represent local variant

What attributes are important for the measurement of assemblage reduction intensity? Results from an experimental stone artefact assemblage with relevance to the Hoabinhian of mainland Southeast Asia

Our understanding of variation in the technology of flaked stone artefacts from mainland Southeast Asia during the terminal Pleistocene and Holocene periods has improved little since they were originally labelled ‘‘Hoabinhian’’ in 1932. Chronological and geographical variation has been described in terms of typological differences, but there are few anthropological explanations of lithic divers...

Prosodic systems: Mainland Southeast Asia

Mainland Southeast Asia is often viewed as a linguistic area where five different language phyla – Austroasiatic, Austronesian, Hmong-Mien, Sino-Tibetan and Kra-Dai – have converged typologically. This chapter illustrates areal features found in their prosodic systems, but also emphasizes their oft-understated diversity. The first part of the chapter describes word level prosodic properties. A ...

Areal Linguistics and Mainland Southeast Asia

Mainland Southeast Asia provides a dramatic demonstration of the areal phenomenon in linguistics: When languages are spoken historically in the same location they often show significant parallels in the organization of a wide range of structural domains, whether the languages descend from the same historical source. The effects of areal diffusion raise fundamental questions for the traditional ...

On the spatial and temporal variability of ENSO precipitation and drought teleconnection in mainland Southeast Asia

The variability of the hydroclimate over mainland Southeast Asia is strongly influenced by the El Niño– Southern Oscillation (ENSO), which has been linked to severe droughts and floods that profoundly influence human societies and ecosystems alike. Although the significance of ENSO is well understood, there are still limitations in the understanding of its effects on hydroclimate, particularly ...

Patrilineal Perspective on the Austronesian Diffusion in Mainland Southeast Asia

The Cham people are the major Austronesian speakers of Mainland Southeast Asia (MSEA) and the reconstruction of the Cham population history can provide insights into their diffusion. In this study, we analyzed non-recombining region of the Y chromosome markers of 177 unrelated males from four populations in MSEA, including 59 Cham, 76 Kinh, 25 Lao, and 17 Thai individuals. Incorporating publish...
